In this interview with Fred, my father, we discuss the changes that he has seen over the 54 summers in the 2 Alaskan salmon canneries he worked in. He initially worked in the Ketchikan cannery for the first 2 summers and then subsequently spent the remaining 52 summers in the cannery in Alitak, where he eventually worked his way up to cannery foreman.
This interview discusses some family history, the salary, cannery life in general, the hiring process, the cannery union, along with other interesting facts. He gives a rare perspective on some of the history of working in an Alaskan salmon cannery due to his long tenure.
